Rachael Blodgett, Senior Social Media Marketing Strategist at McKesson, takes us inside McKeX—our signature onboarding experience. In this blog, she shares what it was like to attend McKeX as a new hire and how the connections, culture, and purpose she encountered shaped the start of her McKesson journey.

Excitement from the Beginning

As a new employee at McKesson, I had heard the lore surrounding the McKesson Experience—our signature onboarding event. While I didn’t know exactly what to expect, everyone I spoke to told me what an amazing experience it was. So when the invitation hit my inbox about two months after I joined the company, I was thrilled. It felt like a milestone moment in my journey here. 

Day 0: Traveling to Texas 

I boarded a flight from Washington, D.C. to Texas, excited not only to visit McKesson’s headquarters in Las Colinas but also to meet other newly hired colleagues. I had the chance to meet many of the other attendees at the opening reception at the hotel the first night, and it got me so excited about what the next two days would entail.

Day 1: Welcome to McKesson

The shuttle picked us up bright and early, and we headed to the office for day one. We were greeted in the lobby, walked through the badging turnstiles, and found our assigned tables in the conference room. The room was filled with new teammates from across the business — tech, distribution, finance, pharmacy services, and more — all coming together for a shared purpose.

One of our first activities was a team challenge that highlighted how differently we all approach problem solving. It was fun, but more importantly, it underscored something essential to McKesson’s culture: we value different perspectives because they make us stronger. By recognizing everyone's contributions and staying open-minded, we can cultivate an environment of collaboration and innovation.

Leadership, Purpose & Perspective

Throughout the day, we heard from leaders from across the business who shared insights into their teams, career journeys, and advice for navigating McKesson. Each speaker highlighted McKesson’s core values and our commitment to leadership excellence. They challenged us to embrace our LEADRx leadership principles to unlock our full potential and advance better health outcomes for all. One of my favorite moments was a fireside chat with our CEO, Brian Tyler. Hearing him speak candidly about the impact of our work, a sense of belonging, and the future of healthcare made our work feel even more meaningful.


We also spent time reflecting on our own purpose — what motivates us, what brought us here, and what impact we hope to have.

Exploring Our Culture

Between sessions, we explored the history wall and learned about McKesson’s legacy of innovation and service. From penicillin production during the 1940s war efforts to supporting communities through COVID-19 in 2020, it was inspiring to see how McKesson has made care possible for more than 190 years.

We also had a chance to meet and join our 10+ Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). ERGs are open to all employees and help build strong communities across a company as large as McKesson.

Day 2: Belonging Takes Shape

The second day was all about connection — hearing more stories, networking with peers, and learning how our individual strengths come together to support the bigger mission. We discussed what belonging looks like at McKesson and how each of us plays a role in creating it. Finally, we dove deeper into our core values of integrity, inclusion, customer-first, accountability, respect, and excellence (I2CARE).

I especially enjoyed the community impact event. We worked together to pack meal kits to support food access. Volunteering as a group reminded me that care isn’t just something McKesson talks about — it’s something we practice. From day one, we’re encouraged to support the patients and communities at the heart of our mission.

The Beginning of Something Bigger

As we said our goodbyes on the final day, I realized that McKeX isn’t just an orientation. It’s a launchpad — a way to immerse new hires in our culture of care, meaning, and belonging, while giving them tools, relationships, and perspectives that will shape their time here. I left feeling truly inspired, with a deeper understanding of how my work connects to McKesson’s mission.

In a full circle moment, I ended up partnering on a project weeks later with someone I met at McKeX — proof that these connections truly last.
