The Role

McKesson Medical Surgical is seeking a Director of Warehouse Technology & Innovation who is hands on and has the proven capability to transition our distribution network to a contemporary technology infrastructure.  This individual will provide executive level leadership for a network wide WMS implementation.  Specifically, they will be responsible for setting a strategic vision, providing leadership and subject matter expertise in the selection of a WMS/WES platform, leading change management, managing project governance, building / maintaining a WMS conversion plan and leading our WMS / Distribution Center (DC) conversion team. 

They will be responsible for actively researching, developing, recommending, and implementing innovative strategies to optimize our warehouse operations as well as drive efficiency and increase productivity through the use of cutting-edge technologies and solutions. This person will have responsibility for managing the budget and implementation schedule. This individual will be required to be an expert at vendor management and building a team environment for this implementation.  Other requirements include being a highly effective communicator to both internal and external stakeholders at all levels - from the distribution center front line employees to executives.  In addition, the individual will be responsible for overseeing the development of standard operating procedures for McKesson Medical Surgical (MMS) distribution centers and ensuring they are implemented in each converted DC with excellence. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in warehouse systems with a particular focus on automation and robotics, as well as a proven track record implementing similar WMS platform(s) at both large and small-scale warehouse operations. The candidate must also possess the ability to think critically, stay informed about industry trends, and leverage technology to drive results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and direct a WMS implementation task force consisting of project leaders, project managers, subject matter experts and non-exempt fly-away support team members to execute on the DC WMS conversion schedule.
  • Facilitate cross-functional discussions and consensus between operations, IT, and other corporate functions to define milestones and interdependencies to allow us to stay or accelerate the implementation schedule.  Lead and direct internal and third-party resources.
  • Lead the research, business case build, and implementation of automation and robotics technologies to optimize warehouse operations, increase throughput, and improve overall efficiency.  Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, operations, and engineering, to identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies and solutions.  Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in warehouse management systems, automation, and robotics, and assess their potential impact on our operations.
  • Lead efforts to communicate to stakeholders on project progress, business case performance, DC site system conversion dates, conversion impacts and business continuity action plans.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining the financial mechanism to track expenses and benefits generated from the project to ensure they are aligned with business case assumption.
  • Oversee development of related SOPs for warehouse operations and ensure implementation of those SOPs consistently across network.
  • Conduct research and analysis on emerging warehouse automation and robotics technologies to identify opportunities for improvement and increased efficiency.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in robotics, automation, and warehouse technology, and make recommendations for their implementation.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to evaluate and pilot new technologies, conducting feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on the progress and impact of automation and robotics initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Typically has 12+ years of professional experience and 4+ years diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skill (or equivalent experience).

Critical Skills

  • A proven track record of successfully implementing and leading a large-scale warehouse management system initiative such as Blue Yonder, Manhattan, or similar systems in a distribution center environment.
  • Delivered projects either within warehouse operations or IT that have simplified and defined systems and processes to drive performance improvements and efficiencies.
  • Advanced knowledge of Distribution Center operations (pick, pack, store, ship) including transportation, and inventory management.
  • A working knowledge between warehouse system functionality and warehouse operational processes.
  • Ability to develop, drive, implement and maintain innovation and promote continuous improvement around engineering processes, customer experience, regulatory requirements, cost structure, and quality/safety initiatives
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and requirements definition and be a liaison between internal/external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, both written, verbal, and presentation
  • Experience in presenting to business unit executives in a clear and concise manner with a high degree of comfort level interacting with leaders at this level.
  • A resilient individual with exceptional abilities to learn fast, solve problems and take ownership.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to travel up to 50% of the time

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$128,300 - $213,800
