Purpose
The primary responsibility of the Pharmacist in Charge, Cell and Gene Pharmacy is to provide leadership and oversight for all daily operations of their pharmacy location, including oversight of pharmacy staff, clinical support to patients, and ensuring that all prescriptions are dispensed in accordance with state, federal and board of pharmacy laws. This role also has the responsibility for managing inventory, fulfillment, and distribution activities at their pharmacy location. This includes the proactive monitoring of inventory and clinical supplies to ensure adequate supplies of medications are on-hand while meeting budgetary parameters.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership

Responsible for all prescriptions dispensed by the pharmacy, including ensuring appropriate turnaround times and start dates are met.
Has day to day oversight of all members of the patient care team through evaluation of work output, assignment of duties, communication, and teamwork.
Collaborates with Biologics by McKesson operations leadership and provides coaching, mentoring, professional development, performance management and ongoing evaluation of onsite team members to promote professional growth opportunities
Ensures that all patient care team members provide services in compliance with board of pharmacy rules and regulations, board of nursing rules and regulations, and federal drug laws.
Responsible for oversight of clinical activities conducted within their pharmacy, including initial patient counseling, obtaining patient medication profiles, adverse event monitoring, follow up and reporting, compliance monitoring and refills, and provision of drug information to prescribers, patients and other clients.
Has periodic consultation with practitioners in the field
Clinical
Conducts a comprehensive clinical review of pharmacotherapy for each patient including drug utilization, counseling, compliance, drug interaction screening, side effect profiling and drug administration support.
Documents results of pharmacotherapy review in patient chart.
Counsels patients on new drug therapy in accordance with clinical management models
Completes REMS training and follows program SOPs accordingly
Coordinates patient care with the referring clinician, including but not limited to, social, psychological and physical needs that warrant customized services by Biologics, Inc. (i.e. pre-filled syringes, color coded labeling for medication identification, etc.)
Serves as a Liaison between patients, caregivers, home health agency nurses, hospice nurses, and the prescribing physician/clinician for orders related to the services provided by Biologics, Inc.
Provides subcutaneous teaching support for patients and caregivers. If necessary, coordinates adequate nursing services with the prescribing clinician
Provides on-call coverage on a scheduled basis
Processes prescriptions accurately and timely
Reviews medication orders for clinical appropriateness
Verifies the discontinuation of service for each patient by assigning the appropriate therapy outcome and deactivates the patient’s chart, prescriptions and software profile as appropriate
Implements clinical management models for products and disease states
Primary intake for all new team referrals initiated by telephone
Committed to “outrageous customer service” as defined by Biologics’ internal policies
Understands the importance of relationship building with patients and clinicians and works to foster such relationships
Operations
Strict adherence to company policy as it relates to all government funded payers, specifically Medicaid and Medicare
Dispenses all medication pursuant to a physician’s order and in accordance with all state, federal and board of pharmacy laws
Compliant with all company policies specifically as they relate to pharmacy operations
Adheres to the federal and state laws with regard to the purchase and dispensing of controlled substances
Verifies accuracy of prescription order entry
Verifies accuracy and quality assurance check of final prescription product dispensed
Facilitates prior authorization process between the clinician and third-party payor as needed
Completes applicable forms and places follow up calls with the insurance company or clinician as needed
Performs end of day audit of patient charts and assists in medication inventory reconciliation
Utilizes patient education materials effectively
Perform intake of and ensure appropriate reporting of adverse events and product quality complaints as applicable and in accordance with regulatory and contractual obligations.
Oversees Cell and Gene dispensing processes and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations as well as manufacturer requirements
Professional
Meets or exceeds current CE requirements pursuant to Board of Pharmacy Laws
Supports professional development goals of staff within the assigned patient care team
Maintains an attitude of constant learning and ensures self-education within the pharmacy oncology arena.
Attends conferences with Peers and reports topics discussed at staff meetings
Minimum Requirement
Degree or equivalent and typically requires 4+ years of relevant experience.
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy
Current and unrestricted license in good standing
Licensed in the state of Kentucky to practice pharmacy, license in good standing
Meets or exceeds current CE requirements pursuant to Board of Pharmacy Laws
Existing multistate licensure in any/all of the following states strongly preferred:
Texas
North Carolina
Massachusetts
Mississippi
Nevada
Ability to apply for additional state licensures as needed in the future, including in the following states/territories:
Alabama
Alaska
Arkansas
Guam
Kansas
Louisiana
Maryland
Michigan
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Oregon
Tennessee
Virginia
West Virginia
Critical Skills
4+ years post-graduate experience in pharmacy operations, pharmacy management, clinical oversight.
Previous Pharmacist In Charge (PIC) experience required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of computers and excellent word processing skills.
Working knowledge of sterile technique and other quality control issues.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to effectively utilize reference materials.
Working Conditions
Onsite role at the Shepherdsville, KY, Monday through Friday.
General Office environment.
