The Sr. Category Manager – Transportation will lead strategic sourcing and category management initiatives for the Courier, LTL, and Truckload transportation categories. This role will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, managing supplier performance, and collaborating with internal stakeholders across McKesson’s Business Units to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and scalable transportation solutions across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement transportation category strategies (Courier, LTL, and Truckload) to achieve cost savings, service improvements, and risk mitigation
Manage category spend of $300M+
Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with regional and national carriers to ensure high performance, compliance, and alignment with company logistics goals
Lead complex transportation negotiations to secure favorable pricing, fuel surcharge structures, capacity commitments, service levels, and performance metrics
Conduct market intelligence, including rate benchmarking, carrier capacity trends, and regulatory changes to inform sourcing strategies and reduce risk
Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders including Logistics, Operations, Finance, and Compliance to understand transportation needs, align strategies, and ensure successful implementation
Use data and industry insights to influence stakeholders and promote best-in-class sourcing practices across the transportation functions
Identify transportation risks (e.g., capacity constraints, regulatory issues, fuel volatility) and develop contingency plans to ensure continuity of service.
Drive process optimization and cost-efficiency initiatives within the transportation procurement lifecycle
Team Collaboration and Support: serve as a resource and mentor for team members with less experience
Forecasting Excellence: Drive forecasting excellence through continuous 18-month forecasting of all projects
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field or equivalent
Minimum of 7+ years of experience in procurement or category management with a focus on transportation, specifically Courier, LTL, and Truckload categories
Strong negotiation and contract management skills
Excellent analytical, market research, and strategic planning capabilities
Proven ability to manage supplier performance and drive service enhancements
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to influence and collaborate cross-functionally
Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated ability to drive sourcing initiatives and organizational change

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.
