Position Description

We are seeking an experienced and accountable leader to serve as the Sr. Director Hardware Projects and DC Incident Support for our Distribution Center Operations. This role will be pivotal in driving operational efficiency and excellence through the strategic management of IT platform, applications, systems and solutions that support our distribution centers. We’re looking for a candidate who can bridge operations and technology, with the leadership presence and communication skills to bring clarity and action in complex major incident situations.

Location:

  • Available to be on-site at distribution centers and in Dallas to support go-lives, major rollouts, or resolve persistent operational issues

  • Committed to being purposefully present - travel is driven by business need and impact, not routine

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the IT applications and solutions supporting distribution center operations.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive IT roadmap aligned with business objectives and operational requirements.

  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of IT systems and processes.

Operations Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of IT applications and solutions in distribution centers, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and availability.

  • Establish and maintain robust processes and procedures for incident management, problem resolution, and root cause analysis.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize, and address operational issues and opportunities.

  • Collaborate effectively with Business Unit leaders to understand operational impacts and drive business-aligned solutions.

Vendor and Stakeholder Management:

  • Manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers, ensuring alignment with contractual obligations and service level agreements.

  • Serve as a liaison between IT and business stakeholders, facilitating communication, collaboration, and alignment on key initiatives and priorities.

  • Advocate for technology investments and resource allocations to support business growth and operational excellence.

Technology Innovation and Integration:

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact on distribution center operations.

  • Partner with other IT delivery leaders to lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new IT solutions and technologies to drive efficiency, scalability, and innovation.

  • Ensure seamless integration and interoperability between IT systems and applications, maximizing their value and utility.

  • Collaborate with ISRM, MT Teams, and Business Unit stakeholders to promote a secure-by-design culture within multidisciplinary teams, agile ways of working, and continuous improvement

  • Identifies, develops, and implements automation opportunities for warehouse operations to improve enterprise monitoring, incident detection/response and optimize support processes.

Team Development and Talent Management:

  • Build and develop a high-performing IT operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.

  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to team members, empowering them to achieve their full potential.

  • Promote diversity and inclusion within the team, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.

Minimum Requirements

Typically requires 13+ years of professional experience and 6+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills (or equivalent experience).

Critical Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues swiftly and effectively under time-sensitive conditions.

  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams during critical incidents, leveraging a hybrid background in operations and technology to drive resolution.

  • Skilled in facilitating post-incident reviews, quickly assessing ambiguous situations, identifying underlying issues, and aligning stakeholders on actionable solutions.

  • Adept at holding internal teams, vendors, and individuals accountable through influence and trust-building, rather than authority. Communicates proactively with clear follow-ups and aligned next steps.

  • Strong capability to map operational workflows to system transactions and vice versa, ensuring seamless integration between business processes and technical systems.

  • In-depth knowledge of Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), with hands-on IT experience in these domains.

  • Solid understanding of core networking concepts including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, TCP/IP, and client-server architectures.

  • Strong analytical skills in diagnosing issues across multi-tiered, integrated systems and applications.

Additional Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership with a focus on continuous improvement, efficiency, and high standards in operational performance.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (in person and via phone/radio) with peers, internal customers, management, contractors and vendors.

  • Excellent communicator, able to synthesize complexity into clear updates for stakeholders at all levels

  • Knowledge of Operational Technology concepts, integrations, systems

  • PLC Knowledge and support

  • Knowledge of cyber security threats, vulnerabilities and mitigation tactics

  • Ability to manage high priority/visible projects

  • Bias for clarity, action, and ownership, even when full context is lacking

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or other related field (or equivalent experience)

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$169,500 - $282,500
