Job Title: Senior Data Engineer
Location: London, United Kingdom

Job Purpose:

The US generic pharmaceutical sector is highly competitive, requiring constant adaptation across the supply chain. This dynamic environment involves multiple channels and stakeholders, including patients, prescription dispensers, wholesale distributors, and manufacturers, all influenced by payers, regulatory bodies, and laws. Success demands organizations to be agile, and at ClarusONE, we collaborate with stakeholders to create efficient supply chain models and generate value through innovative sourcing solutions.

Role Overview:

The Senior Data Engineer will implement data strategy, design, and execution to support business functions, improving data management and analytical insights. This role will drive business growth, optimize processes, and support automation through effective data use. Key responsibilities include choosing and implementing data management solutions, integrating them into the architecture, and ensuring efficient usage across the company. Additionally, the role involves exposing data to external sources via APIs, providing architectural oversight, and hands-on delivery and support. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is essential to meet the demand for new or enhanced data sets.

Responsibilities:
•Work across the development lifecycle from prototyping, to delivering production data solutions to resolving data issues with the business users
•Manage and lead matrix team members and third parties in the execution of data workstreams or data projects
•Lead the development of data ingestion and transformation processes using multiple technologies (SQL, Snowflake, DBT / Astronomer, APIs etc); leveraging agile methodologies and a modern approach to data warehousing
•Support strategic initiatives; design, build and support data solutions conducive to business insights, reporting and analytics
•Designing and implementing ETL / ELT processes
•Monitoring performance and advising on necessary infrastructure changes
•Defining and managing data retention policies
•Defining, managing and implementing data security policies
•Assist in the development of team, departmental, and organisation metrics to analyse business performance and identify areas of opportunity
•Present and defend complex ideas and recommendation to various level in the organisation
•Collaborate with all team members to problem solve and create solutions
•Be an advocate and champion of the ClarusONE data and information assets

Maintain SOX-compliant documentation and support audit activities.
Recommend process changes to minimize errors and improve efficiency.


Requirements:
Education/Experience
•Bachelor’s degree level or above
•5+ years’ experience in a data centric function
•Experience in the healthcare field, preferably in generic pharmaceuticals (sales, purchasing or distribution) preferred, though not required.

Expected Data Engineering Capabilities
•Solid background in data engineering; is able to lead the development and configuration of tools to automate data ingestion, transformation, testing and database administration tasks, including monitoring applicable performance statistics and reports, and is comfortable leading routine configuration, installation and reconfiguration of database products as necessary.
•Capable of developing and implementing master data management processes; is able to scope and develop data management structures (including relevant metadata) to support consistency of information retrieval, combination, analysis, pattern recognition and interpretation, throughout the organisation. Can independently validate external information from multiple sources.
•Comfortable assessing and managing risk; able to assess issues that might prevent the organisation from making maximum use of its information assets, and comfortable providing expert advice and guidance to enable the organisation to get maximum value from its data assets.
•Experience in database architecture, scoping and designing operational data stores to integrate data from multiple sources. Can utilise specialist knowledge of data warehouse design, to lead the implementation of physical database designs to support transactional data requirements for performance and availability.

Knowledge/Skills
• High level of expertise and experience in DBT, SQL and Python
• Experience of working with fully automated CI/CD processes
• Experience of automated testing in a data focused environment
• Strong data warehousing experience (e.g. Kimball / Inmon / data lakehouse approaches)
• Experience with database technologies and concepts (Snowflake or other cloud based data warehouses an advantage)
• Experience with conforming data from multiple data sources
• Hands on experience of a variety of ETL technologies and frameworks (e.g. DBT, Alteryx, Spark SQL etc.)
• Expertise in data design / modelling and analysing data requirements
• Expertise in project management within an agile framework
•Experience working with third party vendors to deliver data focused solutions
•Strong commercial focus and understanding of how the business utilises and relies on data
•Experience of airflow and docker an advantage

The following qualifications are an advantage, but not essential:
•TOGAF or Zachman certification
•Lean Six Sigma certification
•Snowflake or DBT certification an advantage
•Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or similar qualification
