Current Need
McKesson is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Category Marketing Manager to join our dynamic marketing team. This role will be focused on our Core Distribution business within the Health Systems segment. This role will lead the strategic planning, execution, and optimization of marketing initiatives for specific product categories. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in category management, data-driven marketing, and cross-functional collaboration. They will have a deep understanding of distribution operations of pharmaceuticals including brand and generic drugs, GPO channel partners, and product supply and demand.
Key Responsibilities
Category Strategy Development
- Collaborate with McKesson Health Systems marketing teams, SMEs and other stakeholders to drive a united perspective on how to evolve our Health Systems portfolio and your marketed solutions based on your deep understanding of our customer needs, their engagement with our solutions and the competitive landscape.
- Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies for assigned product categories to drive revenue growth and market share.
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and customer insights.
- Define clear objectives, KPIs, and success metrics for category marketing initiatives.
- Collaborate with other marketing teams within McKesson to identify synergies and promote our value proposition and solutions, adopting marketing best practices.
- Demonstrate a clear point of view with actionable advice on how Marketing can help teams achieve goals.
- Provide insights and alternative approaches to problems teams are trying to solve.
Product Positioning and Differentiated Messaging
- Develop compelling value propositions, positioning statements, and messaging frameworks for assigned categories.
- Serve as the “voice of the customer,” “voice of sales”, and “voice of business” developing portfolio and solution-level positioning that stands out from the competition and messages that are clear, evidence-based and focused on benefits
- Ensure consistency in messaging across all marketing channels and customer touchpoints.
- Create and maintain category-specific marketing presentations and sales enablement materials.
Stakeholder Alignment
- Builds and maintains relationships with key business unit leaders to design marketing strategies that grow and retain customers.
- Provide input to business unit leaders, project stakeholders and executives to lead, influence and reach consensus on business plans and strategies.
- Develop strong partnerships with key stakeholders and executive sponsors across Marketing, Product, and Sales to ensure alignment and capture relevant feedback. Maintain a strong pulse on the business needs and objectives. Adjust and deliver with speed and urgency.
Effectively Support Marketing Team on Projects as Assigned
- Work with Health Systems marketing leadership and other stakeholders to understand project goals and their alignment with business priorities, and facilitate input from field-facing teams, subject matter experts, Legal, Compliance, and others. Examples may include:
- Support research activities on customer needs and experience.
- Collaborate on enhancing customers’ experience with McKesson touchpoints (e.g., product implementation, solution-related advisory boards, customer support, etc.)
- Partnering with other marketing teams in Pharmaceutical Solutions and Services, Medical Surgical or Corporate to cross-promote our offerings, adopt product marketing best practices, etc.
Minimum Requirement
Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Critical Skills
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in category management, product marketing, or a related role, preferably within the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry.
- Understanding of the Health System distribution operations, GPOs, and/or product supply and demand.
- Excellent communicator, a strong writer, a PowerPoint wizard, and articulate speaker – who succinctly and effectively gets your point across.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data-driven marketing.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with marketing tools and platforms (e.g., CRM, marketing automation, analytics software).
