Job Summary:

The Director, Specialty Pharmacy (Ontario) is responsible for overseeing the entire pharmacy clinical and operational team, including pharmacy assistants/case workers, regulated pharmacy technicians, aseptic compounding staff, pharmacists, supervisors, and managers at the Ontario McKesson Specialty Pharmacy. The role has accountability for the overall performance and strategic success of the pharmacy in alignment with the vision and priorities of Biopharma & Provider Solutions. The incumbent must have a passion for the business, solid clinical and operational experience, and make a difference by leading and developing the specialty pharmacy team to build accountability, drive business results and provide exceptional patient care.

Section A – Specific Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Ontario pharmacy operations and provide direction on pharmacy activities and projects on a regional level.

  • Provides leadership, Specialty Pharmacy support and management for programs/services within Biopharma & Provider Solutions (BPS).

  • Leads Pharmacy Team in the creation/implementation/execution of department policies and procedures consistent with the organization's mission and care philosophy and in collaboration with other Specialty Pharmacy Managers nationally.

  • Promotes and ensures that the highest quality of care is provided to patients and families.

  • Ensures standardization of processes and smooth rollout of Pharmacy initiatives and programs in collaboration with the respective pharmacy managers across Canada. 

  • Promotes collaboration with each Pharmacy and other business units to grow the BPS division.

  • Demonstrates P&L accountability for dispensing revenue, margin and profitability, including, operational expenses related to the Ontario site.

  • Analyzes, compiles and draws insight on financial and operational metrics to drive pharmacy business.

  • Responsibility and oversight of pharmacy operations including implementing departmental initiatives, financial objectives, tracking and reporting on KPI’s and ensuring SLA’s are met.

  • Key responsibility for accurate monthly pharmacy inventory and reconciliation, compliance and process audits.

  • Oversee clean room operations (hazardous and sterile non-hazardous) and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • A/R accountabilities and collaborating with Finance on collections including manage payor audits to reduce and eliminate claw back risk.

  • Direct and manage pharma partner activities at Pharmacy including client presentations, audits, tours.

  • People management in a large multi-level pharmacy division including performance management, talent recruitment, engagement and retention.

  • Provide professional and accurate presentations.

  • Provide professional expertise to Corporate McKesson Canada.

  • Provide direction and support to respective pharmacy managers and pharmacy staff.

  • Operate and promote behaviours that uphold McKesson i2Care Principles.

  • Ensure company policies and regulatory standards are at the foremost of all activities and decisions.

Section B – Key Requirements: 

Knowledge:  

  • Bachelor or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. 

  • A valid Part A license with good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.

Experience:  

  • Previous experience in Specialty Pharmacy or related field.

  • 5+ years of people and progressive pharmacy management experience.

  • 2+ years’ experience in sterile clean room operations and extensive understanding of NAPRA and USP requirements is an asset.

Skills and Abilities:  

  • Possess strong working knowledge of Kroll and its capabilities.

  • Able to travel as business needs arise up to 15%; possess a valid driver’s license. 

  • Strong leadership skills, can lead, inspire, mentor, develop, and guide a team.

  • Clinical expertise in major therapeutic areas required by Specialty Pharmacy Services. 

  • Excellent project management skills and time management skills. 

  • A professional, confident, and strategic relationship builder. 

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Possess finesse to manage relationships internally and externally. 

  • Positive, "can-do" attitude and customer-focused approach. 

  • Ability to influence with or without authority. 

  • Exercises sound knowledge and good judgment. 

  • Accountable and results oriented. 

  • Strong business and financial acumen.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, and trends and provide insights.

    As part of Total Rewards, we are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson. This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

    Our Base Pay Range for this position

    $115,100 - $191,900
