Job title: Director, Data Governance


Current Need

The Director of Data Governance will lead activities pertaining to data governance and data management as part of the McKesson Pharmaceutical Solutions and Services (PSaS). This role will be pivotal in overseeing the execution of data governance across multiple business segments focused on enabling data stewardship, ownership, delivering capabilities for critical data classification, data cataloging, data quality, data access and data usage. Collaboration will be at the core of success as this role will work with other cross-functional teams including, but not limited to, Business Leaders, Compliance, Legal, Product Management, and IT (Information Technology). This role will be results driven and will also collaborate closely with key stakeholders across other McKesson segments in building out new data governance capabilities and managing complex cross functional projects and use cases.

Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Solid understanding of data governance, data management, data stewardship, metadata, data lineage, data quality, data usage, data rights, and best practices 
  • Drive PSaS’ organization’s data governance framework and operating model including alignment to Enterprise Data Governance policies, standards, processes, and metrics. 
  • Responsible for driving accountability, education, and best practices for data ownership and data stewardship.
  • Leads day-to-day data governance execution with McKesson and vendor resources.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the PSaS analytical data environment and the federated data management model, leveraging industry best practices, to develop, educate, and implement the governance approach.
  • Provide best practices and guidance to team members and peers to ensure data usage, data quality, accuracy, and consistency. 
  • Works closely with Compliance, Legal and security functions to enforce data access controls, security, and privacy standards in compliance with industry standards and regulations. 
  • Collaborate with Product, business, and IT teams to identify and unlock data opportunities and analytics. 
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, data engineering, data science, and IT teams to ensure data governance initiatives are integrated and aligned across the organization.
  • Responsible for managing the inventory and catalogue of key data assets and collaborating closely with other stakeholders and other functions to evaluate future data needs or existing data gaps. 
  • Remain up to date on industry trends and best practices related to data governance and data management. 
  • Works across multiple McKesson segments and business units to identify and respond to both internal and external opportunities.
  • Monitor and report on data governance health and address data/compliance issues as they arise. 
  • Ensures operational compliance by implementing DG controls in organization systems and processes
  • Supports the selection and implementation of appropriate tools, capabilities, educational approaches, attestation methods and on-going continuous improvements of the governance.
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of data governance activities, identifying areas for improvement and driving innovation.

Critical Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Information Management, etc.) 
  • Proven track record in data governance and data management 
  • 8+ years in experience with data governance / data management 
  • Experience working with market leading data governance tools (Alation) and versed in the emerging landscape of new tools
  • Experience in healthcare background preferred. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication with all levels of management.
  • Excellent ability to execute in a strongly matrix environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to drive data-driven decision-making

Minimum Requirement/Education Requirement

  • Typically requires 12+ years of professional experience.
  • 4+ years of management experience

As part of Total Rewards, we are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson. This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$148,900 - $248,100
