Role Description
The Lead Program Manager will oversee project management and maintain program standards across various related initiatives. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of assigned programs aligns with business objectives by organizing teams and project management resources, and managing the identified programs within scope, budget, and schedule. The person in this role is expected to utilize both Agile and Waterfall methodologies to manage project lifecycles and ensure consistency in reporting and project management standards. This role requires building and delivering executive level updates.
With at least 10 years of experience in technology and project management, the Lead Program Manager will work independently or with minimal supervision, using their expertise to drive successful outcomes and mitigate delivery risks. This individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement critical initiatives effectively.
Responsibilities
Lead Project Planning and Execution
Lead the planning, execution, and completion of technology programs and projects, ensuring they meet defined goals, budgets, and timelines while mitigating risks.
Facilitate all activities related to standing up and running complex initiatives from inception to closure, including but not limited to organizing projects, overseeing planning and execution of each project, and leading overall program governance.
Collaborate Across Functional Teams
Actively partner and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including compliance, ServiceNow, vendor management, and business units, to align project delivery with program objectives and business needs. Accountable to manage expectations of critical stakeholders and escalate impediments and/or critical dependencies to appropriate teams.
Manage Project Scope, Budget, and Resources
Influence leadership to determine right priorities and broker trade off’s as required. Develop and manage project plans, monitor progress, control project scope, and allocate resources effectively. Ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget constraints.
Provide leadership and guidance to contract and employee project managers to ensure consistency in delivery and reporting practices
Identify and Mitigate Technology Risks
Proactively identify, monitor, and manage project dependencies, risks and issues. Leads cross functional action planning and problem solving as needed. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies that protect the organization’s systems and data.
Drive Continuous Improvement Initiatives
Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement by identifying areas for process enhancements within the project management lifecycle. Implement best practices and streamline project delivery.
Report and Communicate Project Progress
Actively provide regular status updates to leadership, including key project metrics, risks, and milestones. Act as a liaison between the project team and senior stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment. Will need to leverage expertise across program teams as necessary.
Support Strategic Initiatives
Contribute to broader workstream strategy and programs by providing insights from project execution. Ensure that initiatives align with long-term program / enterprise goals and organizational objectives.
What We’re Looking For:
Project Management Expertise: someone that can lead project management and provide novel approaches to delivering initiatives in a transparent and efficient manner.
Methodology Agnostic: Utilize your deep understanding of various project management methodologies to offer practical solutions tailored to the organization's current needs, enhancing overall project management maturity.
Accountability Champion: Take full ownership of initiatives and workstream results, ensuring objectives are met and driving accountability throughout the organization.
Minimum Requirements
Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience.
Critical skills
At least 5 years of combined Agile and Waterfall delivery experience, with direct accountability for budgets (over $1M), scope, schedule, and quality.
Expertise in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Planview, Jira, Agility or similar).
Strong understanding of technology concepts and risk management
Proven ability to lead complex projects independently with minimal supervision.
Experience utilizing productivity/collaboration tools such as Microsoft Office, and SharePoint for executive level communication.
Additional Skills
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Project management certifications (e.g., PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, SAFe, etc.) preferred.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Project Management, or a related field; or equivalent experience.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.
