Job Summary:

Join McKesson as a Lead Engineer, a senior role responsible for technical leadership, execution, architecture/engineering, delivery, and maintenance of all UNIX/Windows platforms. This role partners with other McKesson Technology (MT) functions, Business Units, and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to optimize platform availability, performance, and security of UNIX/Windows workloads, providing mission-critical applications to the McKesson Enterprise.

Responsibilities:

  • Assumes the role of LINUX/UNIX Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for McKesson, providing a "2 in the box" Technical SME peer with MSP to ensure operational excellence, technical stewardship, governance, and oversight.
  • Partners with MSP/ISRM/IAM teams to ensure appropriate UNIX access controls, system values, and monitoring.
  • Oversees UNIX OS Patch/Version Management, including individual/group/cumulative PTFs, tech refreshes, and EOL remediation.
  • Works with MSP/App Teams overseeing work management, including subsystem configuration, jobs, job queues, job priorities, memory management, throughput, and workload management.
  • Ensures performance analysis and tuning, including troubleshooting, problem determination/isolation, and recommending/implementing resolutions for CPU, memory management, and disk I/O.
  • Partners with other MT functions, Business Units, and MSPs to drive continuous improvement and harmonize operational processes, tooling, and automation to deliver operational excellence, efficiency, and value to McKesson Business Units.
  • Conducts regular reviews and produces dashboard performance metrics for UNIX platforms on enterprise patching and vulnerability KPIs/SLAs.
  • Facilitates timely resolution of operational, security, and infrastructure issues to minimize the impact of service disruptions on the business units.
  • Works proactively to identify audit and compliance-related issues, reducing the risk of security exposures on the support systems and implementing improvements.
  • Collaborates with ISRM, MT Teams, and Business Unit stakeholders to promote a secure-by-design culture within multidisciplinary teams, agile ways of working, and continuous improvement.
  • Troubleshoots, monitors, and administers UNIX software and hardware.
  • Automates infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using Ansible (AAP).
  • Develops and maintains infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible Playbooks.
  • Works with multiple vendors to assist with project implementations.
  • Should have hands-on experience with GitHub for version control and automate deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions or Jenkins for CI/CD.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations, including firmware and OS upgrades.
  • Ensures that jobs are performed promptly, accurately, timely, and according to schedule and dependencies.
  • Performs administration and problem management in the UNIX environment.
  • Translates architectural requirements into deployable solutions.
  • Designs, deploys, manages, and operates scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems.
  • Selects appropriate services based on compute, data, or security requirements.
  • Estimates usage costs and identifies operational cost control mechanisms.
  • Engages in SAP engineering and project work, including migrations, optimizations, and automation.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to meet company goals.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science/computer engineering/technology/information systems or equivalent experience/training.

Qualifications Required: 

  • 10+ years of experience in a highly technical professional environment.
  • At least 7 years of administration experience in UNIX and Windows environments.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced Azure skills, including disk additions/growth, resizing, ASR replication, server builds (cloud-init/Terraform), ANF/Azure Files/CVO.
  • Exposure to RedHat Satellite and Ansible Automation Platform (AAP).
  • Very strong in SUSE/RedHat Linux.
  • Very strong infrastructure as code (IAC) principles using Ansible/Terraform.
  • Strong cloud foundations (Azure preferred).
  • Very strong in debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Very strong in SLES Pacemaker Clustering.
  • Very strong in large-scale implementations and migrations.
  • Strong understanding of public cloud architecture and experience working in both private and public cloud.
  • Strong in programming languages (Ansible, Perl, PHP, Javascript, Shell Scripting, SQL).
  • Strong in RDBMS concepts and exposure to Oracle and MySQL.
  • Strong in design process and technical workflow skills for designing applications and automation.
  • Ability and interest in learning new technologies quickly.
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
  • Exposure to LDAP/SSSD/AD authentication.
  • Strong skills in SAP HANA, ASCS/ERS, and a fundamental understanding of how SAP works.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.
