We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Database Engineer & Team Manager to join our Infrastructure team. This dual-role position requires a seasoned professional who can seamlessly blend technical prowess with leadership skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a complex, highly available database environment while simultaneously guiding and mentoring a team of talented Database Administrators and Engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Mentorship
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Database professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to provide feedback, set goals, and support professional development plans.
Encourage innovation and best practices within the team, promoting a proactive approach to problem-solving and efficiency improvements.
Database Administration
Manage and oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of highly available and scalable database solutions.
Ensure database performance, security, and availability meet organizational standards and service level agreements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and optimize data storage solutions that support business objectives.
Escalation Management
Act as the primary escalation point for complex database-related issues, providing guidance and solutions in a timely manner.
Develop and maintain incident management processes to ensure quick and effective resolution of database issues.
Coordinate with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of database systems.
Project Management
Oversee database projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide strategic solutions to support their objectives.
Report on project status, progress, and risks to senior management and other relevant stakeholders.
Strategic Planning
Develop and implement database management strategies that align with the organization’s goals and objectives.
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to continually improve database systems and processes.
Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and processes to enhance database management capabilities.
Minimum Requirement
Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 9+ years of professional experience and 1+ years of supervisory and/or management experience.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Critical Skills
Minimum of 9 years of experience in IT system management, with at least 1+ years in a leadership role.
5+ years’ experience managing large and complex databases ( > 1 TB)
5+ years’ experience working with Microsoft SQL Server 2014+ Enterprise edition
2+ years’ experience in a leadership role
2+ years’ experience working with Azure database solutions
Additional Skills
3+ years of experience with Availability Group management
3+ years of experience with Reporting Services
