Position Description

The Business Development Manager -US Oncology Research, is a client relationship management position working closely with Business Development Directors in support of sponsor clients and CRO partners. In this business development role, you will be responsible for development of new client relationships, vetting of novel clinical trial opportunities and the promotion of US Oncology Research products and services.   Primary duties include the identification, development and management of prospective clinical research clients.  Serve as the primary point of contact for multiple clinical research customers, focused on identifying customer expectations and requirements for the participation of USOR sites in support of sponsor studies.  Drive new business into the research organization through effective positioning of established SMO products and services in addition to expansion of CRO complementary offerings. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Will predominately focus on new account development- Small biotech sponsors who have previously not worked with USOR. Identification, development and management of prospective clinical research clients for Site Management Organization. Expected to establish & maintain client relationships in order to facilitate collaboration between US Oncology Research and study sponsors/ CROs.

  • Facilitate upstream sales process including the vetting of new study leads, ensuring confidentiality and facilitating the scientific & operational reviews of the study opportunity.

  • Provide essential education and training - Contact prospects and explain features and benefits of products or services offered, utilizing persuasive sales techniques. Required to frequently provide capabilities presentations, address client questions & concerns and identify how USOR assets provide a unique solution for common problems

  • Work across various stakeholders (Legal, Finance, Project Management, Regulatory, Safety, Quality, IT…) to ensure continuity of multiple business processes including contracting, budgets, proposal generation and other complex initiatives

  • Demonstrate expertise of US Oncology Research product, services and offerings; identifying a value proposition specific to each partner’s needs.

  • Support continued growth of McKesson CRO. Identify creative opportunities to promote and drive new business solutions by leveraging these complimentary service offerings including medical writing, biostatistical services, electronic data capture, data, site & project management, regulatory affairs, clinical trial monitoring…

  • Close collaboration with investigators, sites, site services and operations team to ensure awareness of gaps in study portfolio. This will allow for a more focused search for new study opportunities.

  • This position will also support special projects as needed to advance USOR market position (including but not limited to marketplace analysis, customer feedback, performance reporting…).  Track and interpret account trends and report to management. 

  • Identify opportunities for projects involving collaboration with other McKesson Bus – Life Sciences, Real World Evidence…

  • Attend and support conferences, company sponsored and/or internal company meetings as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • 4+ years related/relevant work experience

Critical Skills

  • Experience working in a clinical research environment (within a SMO, CRO, sponsor, site) and a deep understanding of the oncology clinical research setting is strongly preferred

  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and develop a “pipeline” of prospects simultaneously is required

  • Excellent rapport building, collaboration, presentation, business acumen and selling skills are essential

  • Self-starters with a history of consistently meeting or exceeding targets are highly valued candidates

Additional Skills/Knowledge

  • Clinical research experience or relevant experience with a pharmaceutical/biotech or similar company

  • Proven track record in a business development/ sales role preferred; must demonstrate strong sales acumen

  • Proven track record to meet/ exceed business targets

  • Excellent communications skills are a must

  • Team player with strong interpersonal and resource management skills

  • Ability to work with a CRM system; ability to create presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint and ease of use with applications including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Word


Education

  • 4-year degree in either business, health science or related field or equivalent experience
