Position Description

McKesson is looking for an experienced leader with managed care contracting experience.  This position is responsible for providing consulting services to specialty practices with a concentration in managed care contracting.  Working in coordination with the Managed Care Team, Finance and Program Directors, recommends, develops, coordinates, and implements multiple activities in support of managed care initiatives across the MSH organization in specialty areas.  Working in coordination with the corporate Administration, Regional Revenue Cycle Management staff and local practice management, directs due diligence, practice integration, and contracting strategy and administration activities.  Represents MSH in MC market assessments, managed care contract negotiations and related activities. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs consulting services in support of our customer’s business objectives.

  • Consults with specialty provider practice management on the development of market and payer specific strategies and tactics.  Reviews current contracts prior to renegotiation and advises on language for new managed care contracting. 

  • Facilitate the resolution of problem payer issues utilizing personal contacts, negotiations and skills.

  • Ensures development, implementation and maintenance of managed care policies, procedures and objectives and ensures their adequate execution and compliance by consulting with, educating, and training specialty provider practice management and staff as needed.

  • Supports local, regional, and corporate contract administration initiatives by soliciting, integrating, and distributing data and communications on managed care issues. 

  • Maintains awareness of managed care trends, competitive managed care activities and market developments and recommends, implements and administers related responses.

  • Help support Managed Care initiatives and projects.

  • Function as a subject matter expert in Managed Care in order to support practices and Advisory Services team.  Contribute to communications and education.  Assist in coordination of and conducting program and practice meetings to promote participation in Managed Care engagements.

  • Contribute to the development of resources to help support the customer’s Managed Care needs.  Develop education, best practices, and consultative offerings for McKesson’s specialty infusion customers.

Typical Minimum Requirements

7+ years of relevant experience

Critical Skills

  • 5+ years experience with fee for service or value-based reimbursement, healthcare planning, negotiating managed care contracts with payers/insurance companies or on behalf of providers and/or related activities.

  • 5+ years experience in healthcare management in managed care environment at multi-state/site level

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple functional departments and work streams.

  • Healthcare Practice Experience Preferred

  • Experience in consulting or healthcare practice with physician, practice management, and managed care on the development of market and payer specific strategies and tactics.

  • Knowledge of Oncology, Rheumatology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, and Gastroenterology marketplace, highly desired.

  • Experience in managed care contracting strategies including value-based reimbursement, preferred provider strategies, and positioning centers of excellence with payers.

  • Highly detail-oriented individual with outstanding analytical and writing skills.

  • Facilitate the resolution of problem payer issues utilizing personal contacts, negotiations and skills.

  • Ability to assist in the development and recruitment of new customers

  • Professional communication skills with the ability to present to all levels including executive leadership.

  • Experience ensuring accurate profitability analyses are conducted using current pricing and utilization on all managed care bids, quotes and approved unique billing arrangements, as well as educating practice on outcomes

  • Proficiency with analytical tools, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce.com, Smart Sheet

Education

4-year degree in business, finance, marketing, healthcare administration, or related field, or equivalent experience

Travel Requirements

Up to 30%

Position will require significant travel by air or automobile, up to 30% of work week, on average, typically within a regional geographic area but additionally, at time, nationally.

This position is remote and can sit anywhere within the United States.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$103,200 - $172,000
