Job Summary
Under broad supervision, the Pharmacist is primarily responsible to fill and verify drug and prescription orders in compliance and/or unit dose packages. The Pharmacist is responsible to ensure compliance with provincial and federal legislation, standards of practice, code of ethics and regulatory practice directives and policies. They must be knowledgeable with pharmacy operations and have the ability to assist the Pharmacy Manager with supervision and the Pharmacy Support Staff with daily production operations.
This role consists of 40 hours per week (Sunday to Thursday), but we’d also like to meet individuals who prefer working part time (24 hours per week). We are closed Fridays and Saturdays, as well as every day preceding a statutory Holiday.
The successful applicant will be a motivated individual with a positive frame of mind who leads by example and can adapt to an ever changing environment.
Section A – Specific Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmacist ensures the operation of the pharmacy is in compliance with applicable provincial and federal regulation, standards of practice, code of ethics and regulatory practice directives and policies.
Assists the Pharmacy Team with daily operations of the pharmacy.
Participates with the maintenance of a continuous quality assurance program.
Verifies drug and prescription orders using computer screens/barcodes and visual means.
Responsible for production quality. Documents all information required, i.e., production and verification records for quality control purposes.
Works alongside the pharmacy team to assure productivity and operational efficiencies are achieved.
Processes drug and prescription orders using automated technology and manual assembly.
Assists pharmacy support staff with drug order inquiries regarding stock and tracking issues.
Assists the pharmacy support staff with sorting drug and prescription orders to ensure delivery to proper locations and assists with receiving products from the wholesaler.
Assists with the orientation and training of new pharmacy employees.
Maintains effective communication and working relationships with clients at all levels of the organization and business contacts.
Attends and participates in staff meetings as required.
Performs other duties and special projects as requested.
Section B – General Responsibilities
Demonstrates sound judgment in accordance with the professional standards and guidelines issued by the New Brunswick College of Pharmacists (NBCP) and other relevant professional guidelines and standards.
Competently performs the duties of a licensed pharmacist.
Participates in self-review activities to improve personal performance and to identify personal and professional developmental requirements.
Adheres to quality, operational and productivity standards.
Adheres to company policies, shared principles and quality management guidelines.
Demonstrates and promotes compliance with all program specific performance metrics.
Section C - Position Requirements
A minimum undergraduate degree in Pharmacy.
In compliance with all applicable laws pertaining to the practice of pharmacy and is eligible for licensing with the NBCP.
The ability to plan, coordinate, direct and evaluate operational activities in a busy environment.
Consistently acts in a professional manner and serves as a role model for staff.
Excellent organizational skills with ability to set priorities and creatively solve problems.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates success in working effectively and collaboratively within a team environment.
Ability to function is a fast-paced, continually changing and results-oriented environment.
Good understanding of MS software (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint & Excel).
