McKesson, a top company in healthcare services, is looking for a dynamic and experienced Sr. Director of Engineering & Quality Assurance Provider Technology to lead our Lynx Mobile engineering team in developing and optimizing our healthcare SaaS technology inventory management system and analytics solution. The Director of Engineering & Quality Assurance will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction, ensuring the scalability and reliability of our solutions, and driving innovation to meet the evolving needs of healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead the engineering and quality assurance teams in designing, developing, and deploying scalable and secure SaaS products.  60+ employees across 3 teams and 4 high-value customer-facing technology applications\products, including on and offshore employees.
  • Develop and execute the engineering strategy aligned with the company's vision and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define product roadmaps, priorities, and timelines.
  • Works on highly complex product engineering and delivery issues where analysis root cause analysis requires an in-depth understanding of organizational objectives.
  • Integrates technical activity and direction across multiple products & departments, within McKesson and Ontada.
  • Directs second and third-level managers (directors and managers) covering development, engineering, and quality assurance functions.
  • Leads multidisciplinary resources, including engineering, infrastructure, quality assurance, and scrum teams.
  • Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers.
  • Analyzes external technology environment, to anticipate trends and influence strategic platform decisions and evolution.
  • Decisions impact across functions, based on cost/benefit analysis for the function within the specialty division.
  • Operates in a matrix environment, including multiple products, disciplines, and organizations.
  • Supports the development of team goals and performance standards/metrics.
  • Strategic decisions will impact product success, customer satisfaction, and business impact.
  • Works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations requires a good understanding of organizational objectives. Integrates the activities of multiple workgroups and disciplines to obtain results.

Team Management:

  • Build, mentor, and manage high-performing engineering & quality assurance teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide direction and oversight to the directors and managers over the engineering and quality assurance teams.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and performance management of engineering staff.

Product Development:

  • Lead the teams that drive the end-to-end development process for the healthcare inventory management systems, analytics solutions, and new products.
  • Ensure the successful integration of AI/ML models into the financial management predictive solution and oncology cost forecasting tool.
  • Collaborate with product management and other cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality products that meet market needs.

Technical Oversight:

  • Provide overall technical oversight for the development and quality assurance team for all products within Provider Technology.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership across all aspects of product development, including architecture, coding standards, and best practices.
  • Ensure the scalability, security, and compliance of all products, particularly in adherence to healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Lead the adoption of emerging technologies and methodologies to maintain a competitive edge.


Operational Excellence:

  • Implement and optimize engineering processes to improve efficiency, quality, and speed of delivery.
  • Manage the engineering budget, resources, and timelines effectively.
  • Monitor and report on key engineering metrics, ensuring alignment with business goals.

Innovation & Growth:

  • Identify and explore new technological trends and innovations that can enhance the product suite.
  • Drive the exploration and integration of AI/ML capabilities to enhance predictive accuracy and operational efficiency.

Minimum Requirement

Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 13+ years of professional experience and 6+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills (or equivalent experience).

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Critical Skills

  • 13+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 6 years in a leadership role within the healthcare technology industry.
  • Proven experience in managing the development of complex SaaS products, preferably within the healthcare sector.
  • Strong background in AI/ML, data analytics, and cloud technologies.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in software architecture, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience developing and supporting customer facing applications.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare industry standards, compliance, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages and frameworks, specifically Python.

Leadership Skills:

  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and scaling high-performing teams.
  • Strong decision-making abilities, with a strategic mindset and the ability to align technical efforts with business objectives.

Working Conditions

Able to travel overnight domestically 10% of the time.

We are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson as part of our Total Rewards. This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$174,900 - $291,500
